Do you have a flat tire? Is metal wiring starting to show in your treads? Then you’re long past due for a tire change, but how do you change a car tire in the first place? Let Ryan Chevrolet answer your question in detail, and if you have further questions like how often to change your tires, or you need a tow from Williston or New Town to our Minot garage, reach out to Ryan Chevrolet for help. Don’t forget to check out our service specials to see if you can save. If you have other questions about different service topics, be sure to check out our service guides!
Before you get started, you’re going to need the following tools: a jack, a lug wrench, wheel wedges, and a spare tire(s). You’ll also want to dig up your owner’s manual. Once you have all these tools collected, follow these instructions for an effective answer to your question, “how do you change a car tire?”:
The answer to this question depends on 3 factors: how often you rotate your tires, the quality of tires currently on your car, and how much driving you do on x terrain.
If you rotate your tires regularly, they’ll have worn evenly, so there won’t be an unbalance of weight on your tires. If you don’t get tire rotations, it’s likely that 1-2 of your tires are taking much more weight from your vehicle than the others. Tread imbalance will wear down all of your tires more quickly. You can always measure the thickness of the tread of each tire with a penny. If you can see all of Lincoln’s head, it’s time to change your tires.
If you’ve noticed that your tires don’t hold air for more than a few days after you fill them up, chances are the treads either need plugs or you need a tire change.
Don’t drive on your spare tire for more than 50 miles, and don’t drive at high speeds. Most will tell you how fast you can drive on them—usually below 45 miles per hour.
If you’re feeling iffy about changing your tires or how often to change your tires, feel free to reach out to the service department at Ryan Chevrolet in Minot. Just contact us online or call (866) 561-0531.
