Chevy Key Fob Programming: A Step-by-Step Guide

Whether you own a Chevy Silverado key fob or Chevy Malibu key fob, setup is the same. With your key fob in hand, follow the instructions below:

1. Manually unlock your car doors with your car key.
2. Make sure all the doors are fully shut, then insert your key into the ignition without starting the car.
3. Press and hold the unlock button on the driver’s side door then turn the key to the “On” position. Ensure that the engine remains off.
4. Turn it back to off. Repeat the process: “On” “Off” once again in quick succession. (On-Off – On-Off)
5. Deselect the unlock button.
6. Once you release the unlock button you should hear the door locks engage and disengage. The Chevy key fob programming sequence is ready to begin.
7. Re-insert the newly programmed key into the ignition to the “On” position to end the programming sequence.
